V030 – MAPLE BURL

Paradoxically, red oak is sought after for use as front veneer in the furniture and door sector, as it is similar in color to white oak, i.e. light. Unlike white oak, it cannot be used as barrel wood because the pores are not clogged.

Pale pink to dark heartwood, quickly darkening to reddish brown. Aboudikro, which mainly comes from the Ivory Coast, is generally darker than wood from other growing areas. Blocks with numerous bark galls, color defects or water cracks are not suitable for veneer production.

Walnut burl comes in many forms: from head veneer to half burl (cluster) to full burl, which is still one of the most expensive and sought-after veneers. Frequent cracks within the trunk.

In its simple form – cf. Eucalyptus Pommele, Eucalyptus Riegel – it is rarely used as a front veneer, mostly as a side and interior veneer, because the wood is not very expressive. In addition to veneer production, eucalyptus is used for ship and vehicle construction, for railway sleepers, and as plantation wood, mainly for paper production.
