It is highly valued in the veneer and sawn timber sector due to its expressive structure. In the USA it is of great importance as barrel wood (whiskey). It is used as veneer and sawn timber in all areas of the furniture, door, and panel industry as well as the parquet and staircase industry.

Most common species of tree in the world. Its subspecies are found from the Arctic Circle to the mountain regions in the tropics. The most used species for the production of veneer in central Europe are the common pine and in southern Europe the maritime pine.
